Welcome to Philly

Wouldn't ya know it - we finally accompish our dream of moving down here into the city, really get to enjoying ourselves in the foodie scene, and promptly quit blogging. Doesn't seem fair!

So yes, in the last 6+ months of living in the city, we've tread some new ground - Distrito, City Tap House, Cafe Spice, Mac's, Race Street Cafe, Honey's Sit 'n Eat, Sabrina's Cafe, La Locanda del Ghiottone, SquareBurger, Zavino, El Vez, Old City Cheese Shop, Fork, etc., Panini, the Cooperage, Mexican Post, Positano Coast, the Artful Dodger, Lickety Split, O'Neal's, Haru, Old City Asian Bistro, Triupmh Brewing, the Bards, Karma, Kraftwerk, Hummus, Memphis Taproom, Resurrection Ale House... Just to name a few!!!

And then today, after a relaxing late summer carwash/wax session that left us starving - the vaunted Centennial House Cafe, in Fairmount Park. We know more than a couple raving fans of this place, and have driven by so many times, this beautiful morning seemed to good to pass up.

All alone at the crossroads of Belmont Ave and States Ave in what was once the Centennial district built to celebrate the 100th anniversary of America's existence, this quaint and cozy cafe is situated in an impressive stone house called the Ohio House. It's interesting for the fact that though not large in size, it's built from 26 different types of stone from separate quarries in the state of Ohio, many of which bear the names of the quarries they came from.

Oh yes and as for the food - we ordered the PBH (Peanut butter with honey and bananas) sandwich, and potato pancakes - excellent. Service was a mite slow, and the place wasn't crowded - but for the environs and great food it was excusable.

Also notable were the settings inside- tables are srpinkled around the house in an interesting array, on porches, in hallways and on a tented platform out front. Colonial style chairs surround bright tablecloths and are very comfortable and inviting.

Two thumbs up, this might be a new favorite of ours!
